Singapore ICT Regulator IMDA Pre-approved Solar appScreener for Government Grant

The Singapore Infocomm and Media regulator IMDA has pre-approved Solar appScreener binary code review solution for a Productivity Solution Grant (PSG) local ICT SMEs can get for using this tool for application security assurance. Athena Dynamics, Solar’s Singapore-based partner is named the pre-approved supplier of Solar appScreener under the government subsidy program.

In a Digital Economy, many enterprises including Small-Medium-Enterprises (SMEs) across various sectors adopt digital solutions to improve productivity and to transform their business. It is therefore important for ICT solution providers to ensure that their products are cyber secured and safe for use, and data safeguards are in place to protect against cyber thefts and leakage. To help ICT SMEs build up their cybersecurity capabilities and adopt cybersecurity tools and services internally IMDA’s has started a GoSecure Program.

Under the Program ICT SMEs will be able to adopt cybersecurity tools and services for use during development and deployment of solutions, from a list of pre-approved vendors. For eligible ICT SMEs, IMDA will provide a subsidy up to 80% of the costs of the pre-approved tools and services (or a cap of $5,700 per application whichever is lower).

“Binary SAST technology which Solar designed for application security market is cutting edge today. And we are proud to transfer this new technology to the Singapore market, especially for small and medium enterprises that are the real locus of innovation. I hope and believe that this will contribute to the revitalization of the economy and infuses it with new ideas in the current new normal”, said Oleg Slepov, Global VP, Business Development of Solar Security LLC.

Solar appScreener is a static app code analyzer capable of identifying vulnerabilities and undocumented features. Its distinctive feature is the ability to analyze not only source code, but also executables (i.e. binaries) and to return much better results than common SAST and DAST tools available in the market. The analyzer can test apps written in 33 programming languages or that have been compiled into an executable file with one of nine extensions (.jar, .war, .dll,.exe, .apk, .ipa, .app, .ear, .aar), including those for Google Android, Apple iOS, and Apple macOS.

“Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT), whether it is for application or infra-structure, is never a trivial pursuit hence the high service cost associated with it. appScreener, coupled with the iMDA accredited grant via Athena Dynamics, provides an accessible and affordable means for SMEs to achieve high visibility of application vulnerabilities. This is crucial in consideration of the Covid 19 situation that is driving many traditional businesses into online applications. We are grateful to be given this opportunity to bring forth yet another quality digital security innovation to the community. appScreener is probably the only true binary SAST tool today that is able to check on binaries without need the source codes. This means that SMEs are also able to check on 3rd party software and not just in-house developed applications.”, said Ken Soh, CEO, Athena Dynamics Pte Ltd.
